Welcome to the website of Rauma Tennis!

Our website provides all the information you need about tennis in Rauma.

A BRIEF HISTORY OF OUR CLUBS

For historical reasons, Rauma is still home to two separate tennis clubs: Rauman Tennisseura ry, founded in 1937, and Rauman Verkkopalloseura ry, founded in 1939. Originally, Rauman Tennisseura was a private club for employees of Rauma-Repola Paper Mill (now UPM), while Rauman Verkkopalloseura was established a couple of years later to serve other tennis enthusiasts.

Decades passed in this way, but in recent years significant changes have taken place. Rauman Tennisseura “opened up” and began accepting members outside of UPM. Following this, the boards of the two clubs joined forces and decided to work together to develop tennis in Rauma and improve the local tennis facilities. Rather than discontinuing the traditional clubs and founding a completely new one, the clubs decided to establish a joint organisation to handle shared matters.

This led to the creation of Rauma Tennis, whose role is to manage the indoor and outdoor tennis courts in Rauma. Responsibilities are divided between the two clubs. Rauman Verkkopalloseura focuses on competitive tennis under the Finnish Tennis Association, in both open and senior categories. Rauman Tennisseura focuses more on recreational tennis and is not a member of the Finnish Tennis Association.

The Tennis School has been operating since the autumn of 2023 in the renovated facilities at the UPM Hall on Tikkalantie.

Tennis School

Our Tennis School is the perfect place to start an exciting new hobby or improve the skills you already have!

The Tennis School is open to school-age children, teenagers, and adults. Participants are divided into groups according to their age and skill level, with each group with one coached session each week. The Tennis School year is divided into an autumn and a spring season.

Unfortunately, we are unable to offer Mini Tennis during the winter season due to limited court availability. We are actively working to find a solution to this problem.

Midi Tennis is played on a court that is slightly smaller than a full-size tennis court, using softer, slower balls than those used in regular tennis. Midi Tennis is intended for children aged 9–14, and each group has a maximum of six players.

Youth and adult groups are limited to four players and train on a full-size tennis court. In addition to standard tennis balls, slower green or orange balls may also be used when appropriate. Beginners and recreational players train in separate groups to ensure coaching is suited to their level.

Training sessions take place in the comfortable UPM Indoor Tennis Court on Tikkalantie. As the facility has only one court, the number of available training places is limited, and unfortunately we cannot accommodate everyone who would like to join.
